- Bedford Place. Situated a short walk to the north of Southampton's main city centre Bedford Place and its side streets retain all the atmosphere of a bygone era, in what is probably the last bastion of small independent, up-market businesses in Southampton’s city centre. By day and night, the throng of bars, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants are a hive of activity.
- Queensway. More shops including Debenhams department store can be found along Queensway.
- Oxford Street. A host of independent boutiques, salons, bars and restaurants huddle along Oxford Street.
Bargate Markets
In the centre of Southampton is the historic Bargate, once the main entrance to the Old Town. The area is now a common place for markets, usually held on Fridays and Saturdays
Art Design Antiques and Vintage Market
Starting on Sunday 26th May outside WestQuay Shopping centre (on the precinct) a new Art, Design, Antiques and Vintage market will be starting and will continue on a monthly basis. There will be an eclectic mix of artists, craft-led designers, antiques, collectible and Vintage. There has long been a need to showcase the talents of emerging artistic talent of Southampton whether its painting, illustration, prints, glassmaking, ceramics, textiles, photography, woodwork, new designer furniture, sculpture, jewellery and much more… and we are mixing it with the creativity of Vintage Collectors who upcycle clothing and homeware and Antique furniture and Collectibles, from days gone by. This is a perfect opportunity for a Sunday browse followed by a spot of lunch and retail therapy for all the family.
The markets will take place on Sundays 26 May, 23 June, 14 July, 25 August, 22 September, 27 October and 10 November
Many of the stallholders attending have already established themselves at the two very successful markets held monthly in Winchester, (over 70+stalls per month)and we are now looking for like-minded people from the Southampton area to join us and have a stall. Whether you are an artist, maker, trader or just an enthusiast we would love to hear from you.
This initiative has been driven forward by many of the artists and traders we already work with who come from the area and we are hoping to bring a creative vitality into the heart of the City centre, the project has the backing of Southampton City Council
