📰 A day long extravaganza of fun, food and entertainment celebrating the gourmet treasures of Hamble Valley

Calling all foodie lovers and families! On Saturday 2nd September Hamble quay and village will host a farmer’s market of delicious local produce, tasty events, live music and a fun filled collection of amusing and quirky activities – come along for a tasteful day out for all ages!

Hampshire Farmers’ Market is a gourmet’s heaven, bringing together local producers, growers and knowledgeable artisans. Look forward to stalls laden with tempting tastings of what’s local and in season from the Hamble Valley larder. Expect soft fruits, vegetables, free range lamb, beef and pork, honey, cheeses, sausages, bacon, fish, jams and chutneys, plants, wine and beer, cakes, bread and plenty more!

McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the new Retirement Living development on Hamble Lane, is the lead sponsor of this year’s Hamble Valley Festival of Food.

What’s on…

This year’s festival has a maritime and nautical theme to celebrate the river Hamble and its maritime heritage. Events include a talk on Jane Austen’s brother Frank Austen and The Elephant; a ship that was built in Bursledon and that went on to be Nelson’s flagship at the battle of Copenhagen.  For those fascinated with local history, there will be a Maritime & Heritage walk around the village of Hamble with the Hamble Valley Heritage Guides.


For children there will be plenty of fun on the quayside with a traditional Punch and Judy and a nautical treasure hunt. Bella Crafts will be running mermaid, pirate and boat themed crafts and Big Cat Jungle parties are returning for a second year with balloon pirate swords, anchors or fish!

To celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Jane Austen come along dressed in home made Jane Austen or nautical costume for a fun parade.  Judging (with prizes sponsored by McCarthy & Stone) will be with The Mayor Of Eastleigh at 1.30pm at Hamble Lifeboat Station.


Enjoy a salty repertoire of songs and tunes with The Old Sea Dogs band with traditional sea shanties such as “A-Roving” and “Blow the Man Down” to numbers like “Hearts of Oak” and “Rule Britannia” performing between 11:30am and 2pm.

For pooches and proud owners, there’s a fun dog show and training tips Organised by Hamble Hounds, Dog Training & Problem Solving & Oscar Pet Foods on the southern quay.

Starting at 12 noon with Doggy Musical Sits and Downs and then classes such as cutest puppy, plus a Hamble Hounds Display at 1.30pm. No registration is needed but there will be a charge of £2.00 per class.

This is the third event we have organised to help put Hamble village and the wider area back on the map as a place to visit and enjoy.”


The Hamble Valley Festival of Food runs from 10am – 4pm. Parking for the event is at the Donkey Derby Field which is accessed via School Lane.
