Ski takes off from Southampton Airport16th November 2016
It’s the news that all keen skiers have been waiting for… snow is finally starting to fall in top ski resorts across Europe. Last year saw one of the worst starts to the ski season in decades with some resorts not experiencing any snow until late January due to the unusually warm winter weather. Understandably, many people who had booked trips to their favourite resorts were dismayed to arrive and find that, although they had booked a ski holiday, they wouldn’t actually be doing any skiing.
At the time, bookings for ski 2016 - 2017 were predicted to decrease as seasoned skiers worried that they would once again arrive at a snowless resort. Ski enthusiasts can finally breathe a sigh of relief as resorts such as St.Anton in Austria, Wengen in Geneva, Verbier in Switzerland and Chamonix in France have already enjoyed their fair share of the white stuff. It seems as though the Alps are also trying to make up for misbehaving last year as it is currently snowing heavily across these resorts, with more snowfall than is normally expected at this point in the season.
Some ski resorts are even opening a week or two earlier than scheduled following the heavy snowfall. Both Wengen and Grindelwald in Geneva and Val Thorens in France are opening up on 19th November showing just how strong the start to the season is. As such, ski bookings from Southampton Airport with Inghams, to all of the above destinations and more, are expected to increase as news of the snowfall spreads.
Now is the perfect time to book your ski trip with many deals available because of the poor snow show last year and there are some fantastic deals for New Year’s breaks if you’re looking to welcome in 2017, Après Ski style! Flying from Southampton Airport means world-class skiing and boarding is available right on your doorstep. That’s direct access to all the best snow and après-ski in Austria, France and Switzerland with world renowned companies such as Inghams.
Managing Director at Southampton Airport, Dave Lees, says “It is great to see that the snow is falling in these resorts in time for the fast approaching ski season. We are delighted to be able to offer local residents the chance to reach these top ski resorts with ease from Southampton Airport.”
