Last chance to meet the Dinos in Southampton14th August 2015
Southampton has been their home for the summer, but next month the dinosaurs will be stomping back to London. Local residents are urged to meet the prehistoric creature before it’s too late.
Dino Encounter, the headline exhibition of DINOFEST2015, a monumental year of ‘roarsome’ exhibits and events in Hampshire’s top museums and arts venues, invaded SeaCity Museum in June and parks up until September 27. It offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with awesome animatronic dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum and celebrate the ‘golden age of paleontology’.
Working collaboratively with palaeontologists from Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton, Dino Encounter tells the story of how cutting-edge science is increasing our knowledge of dinosaurs and their close relatives, challenging some of this generation’s long-held beliefs. Visitors will have the chance to discover the terrible lizards of legend. Wherever you are, the dinosaurs are closer than you might think.
Featuring many interactive events such as an opportunity to touch and feel a giant T-Rex skull replica and taking on some dinosaur hunting in a dino lab and dino dig pit, there is something to both educate and enjoy for everyone.
Families brave enough to face the dinosaurs at multiple venues increase their chances to win special prizes. Hampshire Cultural Trust threw down the gauntlet and launched its DINO TRACKER map, where visitors can collect footprint stickers at each venue they visit to be in with a chance to win ‘roarsome’ prizes and become the ultimate DINO TRACKER. With exhibitions running into the new year, everyone is in with a chance of winning big.
Janet Owen, chief executive of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: “There is just six weeks left to meet with the magnificent dinos at SeaCity Museum so don’t miss out.
“DINOFEST2015’s exhibitions; Dino Artist, Dinos in your Garden and Dino Explorer, will run throughout the Autumn at venues across the county. Pick up your DINO TRACKER map, collect stickers and win big.”
