Rediscover Southampton with free guided bike rides28th May 2015
If you’re keen to get out on your bike a bit more and explore more of your local area this summer, but don’t know where to start, a series of free guided bike rides coming to Southampton could be the answer.
Part of a national campaign to get more people cycling for fun and fitness, Sky Ride Local offers a fantastic range of themed guided bike rides taking place throughout the summer months.
British Cycling and Sky, in partnership with Southampton City Council’s My Journey initiative, have scheduled a series of themed Sky Ride Local rides in Southampton for 2015. Guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic local routes and pitched at three different levels, the rides will explore different themes from Wildlife and Wilderness to City Streets and Parklife.
Stewart Kellett, British Cycling’s Director of Recreation and Partnerships, said: “What better way to get some exercise, get outdoors and see your area in a new way than to join some of the themed Sky Ride Local bike rides taking place in and around Southampton this summer.
“The rides begin on June 7, so there’s no time like the present to get your bike out. Whether you want to build your cycling confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge, now’s the time to register your free place on a Sky Ride Local bike ride in Southampton.’
Councillor Jacqui Rayment, Southampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “I am very excited to see Sky Ride Local weekend rides come back to Southampton this summer. The fantastic partnership between the council’s My Journey initiative, British Cycling and Sky is extremely important as it allows us to offer our residents an opportunity to get out on their bikes more in their free time, meet like-minded people and rediscover the city on two wheels.”
