The Variable Surface Drive

by Yellowfin Limited

The Variable Surface Drive

Based at Saxon Wharf in Southampton, marine drive development company Yellowfin has developed a revolutionary new drive for marine leisure craft. Prior to Yellowfin’s involvement there had been little research done into the forces involved in marine propulsion.

Normally, boats make use of multiple thrusters to manouvre, but Yellowfin’s innovation has stopped the need for even one! The benefits of the new Variable Surface
Drive have the potential to change the whole marine leisure industry – it can double efficiency, boost performance by 90%, boost control with the use of a ‘point and go’ joystick and significantly lower fuel consumption (by 50%), emissions (by 50%) and noise, so it is also extremely environmentally clean.

The Variable Surface Drive is the product of 12 years development and was launched at the Southampton Boat Show in 2006, where it was received with great interest and has since been shown in Barcelona and London, with further shows planned during 2007.
