Providing an influential voice, the organisation aims to further Southampton as the major city of excellence for business and economic growth on the South Coast. Led by local business leaders and working with partners throughout the Southampton city region it engages the most influential leaders to challenge and address issues and maximize opportunities. Southampton & Fareham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the independent voice for business in the region with members from Sole trader to companies with over 1000 employees, in all sectors and in all parts of South and West Hampshire. The Government has asked local areas to take control of their future economic development through the formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP). Local enterprise partnerships are locally-owned partnerships between local authorities and businesses. On 28 October 2010, the Government announced 24 partnerships that were ready to move forward and establish their local enterprise partnership boards, the Solent LEP, which covers the M27 corridoor, Southampton, Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and the Solent waterway, was one of these partnerships given the go ahead.
