Southampton Airport delivers new seating area for Bitterne Park School18th September 2017
On Thursday 14th September, Southampton Airport employees were delighted to be invited down to the unveiling of the seating area that the airport had gifted to Bitterne Park School for their brand new building. Head of Asset Management at the airport and Governor for Bitterne Park School, Steve Thurston, and Hazel Screech, Customer Experience Manager, went to meet with the staff and pupils at Bitterne Park and look around the new facilities.
As part of the long standing partnership with Bitterne Park School, Southampton Airport provided a new seating area for the pupils to enjoy and to replace the previous ‘Destinations Lounge’ which was located in the old school building and was funded by the Southampton Airport Community Fund back in 2012.
Southampton Airport first joined forces with Bitterne Park School back in 2004 with the aim to support its local senior school with their educational needs as well as to enhance the learning of each student, enabling them to develop essential skills necessary for their future careers. Since then, the partnership has flourished, with yearly work experience opportunities for the pupils, behind the scenes tours for the Travel and Tourism students, airport staff helping with the Bitterne Park annual ‘Big Interview’ as well as a joint visit to 10 Downing Street.
Hazel Screech, Customer Experience Manager at Southampton Airport, said “We were very excited to be given the opportunity of working with Bitterne Park School to design and provide a brand new seating area for pupils to enjoy. The vibrant new seating area provides a flexible space that positively supports learning and is also a great place for pupils to relax with friends. The new building is amazing and this was a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate our long standing partnership with Bitterne Park School.”
Chris Whitbread, Deputy Head Teacher at Bitterne Park, said “Bitterne Park School are very proud to be able to continue working in partnership with Southampton Airport. The new seating area for our students and the graphics are an amazing addition to our new school. Students have already been using this area and it has become a very popular area to sit and socialise in.”
