Southampton Hospital Charity and Xelabus Launch Children's Emergency and Trauma Department Signature Bus13th December 2016
Southampton Hospital Charity and Xelabus Limited have launched a charity branded bus to promote the new Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department appeal at University Hospital Southampton.
The bus will run throughout the duration of the appeal until Summer 2018 across Xelabus routes in Southampton and Eastleigh and will be making a series of VIP stops to celebrities and prominent figures in Hampshire to step forward and “sign” the bus.
Kicking off the signatures were actors Jim Murray and Sarah Parish from The Murray Parish Trust, charity partners for the appeal.
Speaking of their involvement in the launch, Sarah said: “As the charity partner of Southampton Hospital Charity on the Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department appeal, we are delighted to open this exciting bus project.
Jim added “We think it is a fantastic opportunity to not only get the key messaging about the appeal out there in the community but also to encourage influential figures to get involved and show their support by leaving their mark on the bus.”
The Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department appeal was launched in June after the Say Yes George campaign backed by the Daily Echo resulting in a £2 million match funding promise from the Government.
The innovative new facility will be spread across 1,391m² and is expected to see 30,000+ children a year. The department will look after children’s emergencies from: Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire, Berkshire, West Sussex, Channel Islands and Oxfordshire.
Gareth Blair, Managing Director of Xelabus Limited, said: “We are delighted to partner with Southampton Hospital Charity on this fantastic project having previously supported their Piam Brown children’s cancer ward refurbishment appeal.
“The prospect of a new Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department is incredibly exciting for not only Southampton but all of central southern England and a cause we wholeheartedly support.
“This bus will be seen across many different routes in the area and is a great way to visually get people talking about this appeal that will mean so much for the community.”
The delivery of a brand new, purpose built Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department is the first step towards building a bespoke Children’s Hospital in Southampton: a groundbreaking ambition with a monumental impact nationwide.
Jeneen Thomsen, Head of Major Gifts at Southampton Hospital Charity, said: “We hope that the Xelabus signature bus will really get people talking about, and donating to, our critical appeal.
“The new department for University Hospital Southampton will bring the hospital firmly into the future, with innovative equipment and space allowing our staff to provide levels of care above and beyond what is currently possible.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of Xelabus and look forward to inviting more and more people to sign this very special bus!”
