University of Southampton join Marwell’s Zany Zebras sculpture project17th December 2015
HMS Collingwood is the home of the Maritime Warfare School, which contributes to the operational capability of the Fleet by providing first class training to officers and ratings of the Royal Navy in their professional specialisations which include Warfare, Weapon Engineering and Communications. The training they receive is relevant, agile and flexible, and allows the Navy to keep pace with changing operational needs.
Lieutenant Commander Prideaux Hattle, Royal Navy, OIC Victory Squadron said: “HMS Collingwood and Victory Squadron are delighted to be able to support Marwell’s Zany Zebras. Having previously supported the Go! Rhinos project and witnessed its impact and great success over the Southampton region, we are thrilled to again be supporting what we know will be a bigger, more exciting, and thoroughly energising venture from the Marwell Team. We very much look forward to following the progress of this project and assisting the team as they in turn help the Zebras find their legs and their temporary grazing grounds across Southampton.“
The spectacular Grevy’s zebra sculptures will create an amazing trail across Southampton to raise awareness of the plight of these incredible creatures and give a welcome boost to the regions’ economy. An additional element to next year’s project will be a miniature trail of zebras inside Marwell Zoo.
Kirstie Mathieson, Project Manager for Marwell’s Zany Zebras said: “We are thrilled to have the support of HMS Collingwood once again. Their help GO! Rhinos trail in 2013 was invaluable – we really couldn’t have done it without them! Their support in installing the trail, sculpture manoeuvres, as well as at the Charity Fundraising Auction ensured that the project’s challenging logistics ran smoothly. We look forward to working with HMS Collingwood and Victory Squadron again on Marwell’s Zany Zebras.”
Businesses, schools and artists from around the region will help Marwell Wildlife create this family friendly trail and bring additional footfall to the region.
