New opportunities as Southampton-based biomass specialist Saxlund International expands8th September 2014
Construction of 3.4MW waste wood biomass combustion solution
Leading Southampton-based Bio-Energy and materials handling firm Saxlund International continues to expand, securing three new major UK contracts and delivering its best half year performance to date.
Contracts include an alternative fuel system for the largest cement plant in the UK and a state-of-the-art biomass combustion and fuel handling solution for energy producer Twinwoods Heat & Power in Bedfordshire.
This clean-burn solution will enable Twinwoods Heat & Power to finalise development of their waste wood biomass power station which is due to go live in 2015. The combined heat and power (CHP) plant will produce over 27,000 MWhr of electricity and 8000 MWhr district heating annually.
“With growing UK interest in renewable biomass energy solutions to provide Combined Heat and Power from Energy producers, large consumers and investors, together with the government renewable heat incentive (RHI), Saxlund has never been busier,” says Managing Director Matt Drew.
“Twinwoods Heat & Power is a great example of a small-scale BioEnergy power station using waste wood fuel to deliver energy and hot water for local commercial and domestic users. The UK is really starting to take interest in Biomass solutions and we are actively looking for the right staff to help the business further expand, especially senior mechanical engineers and experienced project managers.”
Saxlund International, a subsidiary of Opcon the international energy and environmental group, is a market leader in the biomass combustion industry as well as bulk solid handling and storage sectors. With more than 60 years’ experience, the company has offices in Southampton, Sweden and Germany, and currently employs some 85 employees, providing a full range of services from design, engineering, manufacturing and construction.
